Can I take Gaviscon Heartburn and Indigestion 24 Sachets when pregnant or breastfeeding?
Controlled open studies on 281 pregnant women did not demonstrate any significant undesirable effect of Gaviscon on the course of pregnancy or on the health of the foetus/newborn. Based on this and previous experiences, the medicine can be used during pregnancy and lactation. However, in view of the presence of calcium carbonate, it is recommended to limit the duration of treatment as much as possible. Pre-clinical investigations in animals have shown that alginate has no adverse effect on the fertility of the parental generation and offspring or on reproduction.
