What are the most common causes of vaginal infections?
Vaginal infections are a usage problem among women of all age groups. While some vaginal infections are accompanied by abnormal vaginal discharge, nearly 50% of them do not have these symptoms. The most common causes of vaginal infections are bacteria, yeast and trichomonas (they could also be a combination of these infectious agents). Bacterial vaginosis, an infection of the vagina caused by certain bacteria, is more common than candida and trichomoniasis and is associated with a milky (thick) gray-white discharge and a fishy odor. It can cause complications, especially during pregnancy and childbirth, so it must be managed correctly. Discharge caused by trichomoniasis is yellow-green, foamy (foamy), and is usually associated with foul odor, vulvar itching, and painful urination. In both infections the pH is elevated. On the other hand, vaginal pH in case of candida infection is generally normal. The discharge is white, thick and reminiscent of fresh cheese (ricotta), without unpleasant odors. Candida is associated with intense itching and burning in the vagina and vulvar area.

How does Gyno-Canestest work?
The normal pH of the vagina (pH is an indicator of acidity) can range from 3.5 to 4.5. Bacterial vaginosis and trichomonas infections, as well as non-infectious causes (including estrogen deficiency or menopause) cause an increase in vaginal pH.
With a color change on the yellow tip of the swab, Gyno-Canestest indicates whether the pH of vaginal secretions is normal or elevated.
A positive test (color change to blue/green) indicates an elevated vaginal pH level.
A negative test (no color change) indicates a normal vaginal pH. The results are based on an indication of the pH level and its usefulness has been demonstrated in detecting, with an accuracy greater than 90%, any variation in vaginal pH even in the case of aqueous secretions of various levels. What precautions should be taken before using Gyno-Canestest?
1. To ensure the validity of your results, do not perform Gyno-Canestest under any of the following circumstances: (a) you are within one day of your period or on the day of your period; (b) there are signs of menstruation or vaginal bleeding; (c) less than 12 hours have passed since sexual intercourse or vaginal douching.
2. Do not insert the swab deeper than the handling point.
3. If you are pregnant, Gyno-Canestest may indicate a leak of amniotic fluid. If you are pregnant, please consult your doctor before use, as the interpretation of test results during pregnancy requires professional knowledge.

How is Gyno-Canestest used?
1. Discard the single Gyno-Canestest (swab).
2. Make sure that the tip of the swab does not come into contact with any object before introducing it into the entrance of the vagina.
3. Hold the Gyno-Canestest with your fingers on the swab holder (as shown).
4. Separate the extreme skin flaps to expose the vagina.
5. Gently insert the yellow tip of the Gyno-Canestest until your fingers reach the outer skin of the vagina (about 5 cm into the vagina) and rotate the swab several times. Do not touch the entrance to the vagina.
6. Remove Gyno-Canestest from the vagina. Carefully avoid allowing the tip to come into contact with any object and check that it has collected a visible amount of secretions.
7. Wait 10 seconds. Check the Gyno-Canestest tip for color changes from yellow to blue or green. Caution: If blood spots appear on the Gyno-Canestest, ignore the results and consult your doctor.
8. Discard the Gyno-Canestest after use as with any other feminine hygiene product after checking the results. Do not throw it down the toilet.

How to interpret test results?
Color change to blue or green (positive result):
If after 10 seconds the tip turns blue or green, this most likely indicates the presence of a bacterial or trichomonas infection.
Milky (thick) white-gray fluid discharge with a fishy odor may indicate a bacterial vaginosis infection. You can consult your doctor or pharmacist for information on treatment.
Yellow-green, frothy (foamy) discharge associated with foul odor and painful urination may indicate trichomoniasis. In this case, consult your doctor.
If in doubt, consult your doctor or other healthcare provider for information.
A partial blue or green mark on the yellow indicator at the tip of the swab is considered a positive result.

Important: If the tip turns blue or green when you are pregnant, this may indicate a leak of amniotic fluid. Consult your doctor immediately.

No color change/the swab remains yellow (negative result): if the tip does not color after 10 seconds, the probability of having a bacterial or trichomonas infection is low. White, thick, cottage cheese-like discharge without an unpleasant odor may indicate a vaginal yeast infection, known as candidiasis. Consider using over-the-counter vaginal products such as antifungals.
